Food For Thought
“ Recent research shows that many children who do not have enough to eat wind up with diminished capacity to understand and learn. Children don’t have to be starving for this to happen. Even mild undernutrition – the kind most common among poor people in America – can do it. “ (Carl Sagan).
Your support and efforts are important in the month of August – that is your food donations and/or volunteering at Market Street Pantry. It is critical to give the 31 % of our pantry clients who are children a nutritious launch into their school year.
Let’s remember that being hungry is very different for our children than for the rest of us. In addition to inhibiting their ability to learn in school, when it comes to kids….HUNGER HURTS!
Doing all that’s possible to feed hungry children is a more urgent need than ever thanks to the severe cuts our federal government has made to existing food aid programs.
