Getting To Know You!

An initiative has been started to re-introduce our parishioners that are not able to attend services regularly on Sunday mornings and to learn about the significance of St. Luke’s in their lives.

PARISHIONER Renee Cassell

This initiative started with Michelann Scheetz sitting down with Renee Cassell for a chat recently.

This is our first interview in the series “Getting to Know You.” I spent some time sitting with Renee Cassell while sitting on her lovely porch. If you know Renee, you know the porch is her favorite place to sit and chat as friends and neighbors pass by.

Renee and her late husband John were married for 70 years before his passing in 2020 and have been long-time St. Luke’s members. They raised their three children in Granville; Michael, Mary, and David in the house Renee still lives in (you know, the one with the porch!)

Were you raised an Episcopalian?

“No. My family was Greek, and we were raised Greek Orthodox. However, my mother wanted us to speak English and wouldn’t allow us to speak Greek in the house. She said, “We are Americans, and we are going to speak English!” I could have been bilingual and gone to the Greek school with my friend, but mother had other plans. But I wouldn’t change a thing. Mother made a good choice, and I loved her so much. “
