Rev. Julia Joyce-Miesse

St. LuKE’s RECTOR

The Reverend Julia Joyce-Miesse serves as the 22nd rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Granville, Ohio, in the Diocese of Southern Ohio.

Pastor Julia is a healer and a storyteller with a passion for teaching and empowering God’s people to live into their Baptismal Covenant – living into a life of discipleship, loving all we encounter, caring for Creation, and striving for the justice and dignity of all people as we work to become the Beloved Community God desires for us.

A cradle Episcopalian, Pastor Julia was formed by the Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, where the seed was planted toward discernment for the priesthood by Bishop Barbara Harris at an Episcopal youth conference.

Already involved in the church choir, acolytes, youth ministry, and social justice feeding programs as a young person, Pastor Julia became more involved as a youth leader throughout young adulthood and continues to work nationally with Episcopal Youth programs. Realizing a call to healing, she became a registered nurse and has served as an emergency nurse for 23 years.

Pastor Julia graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia, where she received her master’s degree in divinity and was awarded the Dean’s Cross for Servant Leadership for creating and running the COVID-19 program, caring for the students, families, faculty, and staff at Virginia Theological Seminary, through the pandemic. Other recipients of the Dean’s Cross include Madeline Albright, Barbara Bush, and Wendell Berry. Pastor Julia served as the deacon at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown before ordination to the priesthood.

Pastor Julia moved to Ohio recently from Boulder, Colorado, where she was the Associate Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church. She is blessed to be the mother of an incredible adult son, Taylor, and has the joy of serving a lively cat named Sherman with the love of her life, the Reverend Iva Joyce-Miesse.

Pastor Julia is thrilled to join the St. Luke’s family and can not wait to get to know Granville, Ohio’s wonderful people and community.
