Blessing of the Animals

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

While joyfully following the Episcopal Church’s Liturgical Calendar, St. Luke’s deepens our connection with the Holy Spirit through inspired and creative interpretations of the liturgy.

Some of our special services:

Blessing of the Animals

Each year, we celebrate the life and legacy of St. Francis of Assisi with a Blessing of the Animals service. We typically hold this colorful service outdoors, welcoming all animals — from horses to guinea pigs — on the Sunday closest to St. Francis Day.

Dia De Los Muertos

St. Luke’s observes All Saints Day/All Souls Day with an exuberant Dia de los Muertos service. Celebrating the lives of our loved ones who have become saints themselves, we set up a colorful ofrenda in our narthex, with photos, papel picado, and other symbols of this holiday, a fusion of meso-American traditions with Spanish and European cultural traditions.

St. Luke’s Day

A creative interpretation of history is the hallmark of our St. Luke’s Day celebrations. We’ve welcomed guest speakers from our first Sr. Warden, (complete with top hat!) to St. Luke himself (with wings!).

We take advantage of other ways to worship throughout the church year, including during Advent, Lent, and Holy Week, as well as the occasional Evensong or Evening Prayer service.
