Market Street Pantry Update…
Bob Hays, a Rotary Club of Granville member built and delivered a movable book cart for the Market Street Pantry. The book cart can be moved in and out of the pantry for children of our clients to take and read books! The idea and need for the cart came about because of an email sent by Gwendolyn Zaczepinski, mother of Emmett and Eve Zaczepinski, who was reaching out to see if the Read to Succeed Foundation could provide free books and activity books for children served by our organization.
Emmett and Eve, 8th graders from New Albany are leaders for the Read to Succeed Foundation and have been continuing the work of the founder by collecting gently used children's books. The Read to Succeed Foundation was created 7 years ago and has delivered over 83,000 books to 99 locations helping underprivileged children succeed. The Market Street Pantry received their first ‘shipment’ last week.

OHIO DAIRY FARMERS GIVE MILK COOLER
to St. Luke’s, Market Street Pantry
American Dairy Association Mideast delivers refrigeration units to food pantries in need.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – St. Luke’s, Market Street Pantry, in Newark Ohio, has been awarded a dairy cooler as part of the American Dairy Association Mideast milk cooler grant program. The program, funded by Ohio dairy farmers, provides local food pantries with a refrigeration unit to help store milk and dairy foods at proper temperatures.
Stacey Atherton with Shipley Family Farms nominated Market Street Pantry to receive the milk cooler to help increase the availability of fresh, delicious dairy foods for their customers.
The pantry co-director, Dagny Gelormo said, “This is a wonderful opportunity to work with the dairy farmers and get their product to our clients who rely on our pantry for 85% of their food. Adding milk and other dairy foods is a much-needed health benefit for everyone.”
In Ohio, one in seven people struggle with hunger. Milk is one of the most requested items for food banks, but despite the demand, it’s one of the least donated items. On average, food banks are only able to provide the equivalent of less than one gallon per person per year.
“Ohio dairy farmers understand how important it is to get nutritious dairy foods into the hands of people who need them most, especially now at a time when food insecurity is high,” said Scott Higgins, CEO of American Dairy Association Mideast. “Our milk cooler program ensures dairy foods maintain peak freshness while increasing dairy’s availability to families in the community.”
