Karin Dahl
Karin Dahl is an Emeritus Professor from The Ohio State University in Columbus. Her area of research was Emergent Literacy, exploring how young children learn to read and write. In addition, she worked internationally in a Critical Thinking project funded by the Open Society Institute in New York. There she conducted extended training for educators in Uzbekistan and worked with refugees from Myanmar.
After academia, Karin began a new career as an artist. The most recent work combines abstract art and original interpretive jazz. In 2021 and 2022 she had two solo shows in Columbus called Art and Jazz.
Karin is the mother of two daughters and has four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She lives with her husband Paul Rice in Granville and has been a member of St Luke’s Church for the past seven years.
Jean Schelhorn
Jean Schelhorn has held executive positions at Owens Corning, Battelle Memorial Institute, and Ohio State. She has launched many new products into the market and is an inventor on more than a dozen patents. She currently works within the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine as the Director of Commercialization and Industry Collaborations. In 2022 she became a published Oxford University Press author.
An active member of St. Luke’s for 41 years, she has served various roles as many of us have! - Sr. Warden, Jr. Warden, Finance Committee Chair, Investment Committee, Long-Range Planning Committee, Facilitator, multi-year Ski-Trip Organizer (7 years, travel bus, and lots of skiers!), and Stewardship Committee. Her favorite St. Luke’s projects so far? Maybe fabricating a life-sized Advent Cave that complemented livestock in our front yard for many annual Christmas walks; or restoring our bell with an Amish team who even made the rope we use today; or taking funds and pens from St. Luke’s to Ethiopia to help successfully start a school for girls. Jean is a current Vestry member filling a vacant term, and serves as our Treasurer.
Elizabeth Weiser
I am a professor rhetoric and museum studies at The Ohio State University, and I’ve taught at the Newark campus since 2004. I’m the author of two scholarly books (working on a third) and the editor of five others (including one about to be published on the Newark Earthworks), as well as a novel, and I regularly publish in journals and give talks around the world. I’m the only American on the executive board of the world’s largest network of museologists, where I’m managing editor of our publications.
On the campus, I’ve served multiple leadership roles, and I’m deeply involved in our diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. I really love to write, even in my spare time, but I also bike, hike, and travel. Matthew and I raised our nonbinary child Ross (who is graduating from Reed College out in Portland this May!) at St. Luke’s, and we’ve lived in Newark by Licking Memorial for 19 years.
