The Warmth of Other Suns IsabelWilkerson
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. With stunning historical detail, Wilkerson tells this story through the lives of three unique individuals: Ida Mae Gladney, who in 1937 left sharecropping and prejudice in Mississippi for Chicago, and, in old age, voted for Barack Obama. George Starling, who in 1945 fled Florida for Harlem, and Robert Foster, who left Louisiana in 1953 to pursue a medical career.
Members will meet at 12:30 pm in the Undercroft (unless otherwise noted) to enjoy a light lunch and engaging conversation. The theme of this cycle is “Journey On” and, as you review the titles below, you’ll see that they focus on a range of journeys from the spiritual to the personal to the political. Multiple copies of each title will be provided by the Granville Public Library. All members as well as friends of St. Luke’s are welcome to participate. If you would like to journey with us, please email your intent to participate to the church office at office@stlukesgranville.org
