Vestry News...
From The Senior Warden, Patty Myers
As a reminder to all, the monthly Vestry minutes are available in the Undercroft in a 3-ring binder. In addition to our monthly vestry meeting, the Vestry held a Visioning retreat in the past week. Each vestry member was asked to contribute their thoughts on a vision for St. Luke’s in the next 3-5 years. Keeping that visioning in mind we will meet again to create measurable goals and objectives. Also taken into consideration was input from the congregation that was given in the survey at the time of our annual meeting in 2024. A report will be provided back to the congregation with requests for your assistance in meeting the goals.
We also celebrated the progress being made in the church and sanctuary as well as the Parish House. If you have not done so, please visit the Parish House to see the difference paint, new carpet and furnishings have made. This will be a space for you to reconnect, refresh and rejuvenate! You can enjoy time there on your own or invite guests. A community open house will be planned to celebrate both buildings closer to completion.
While in the Parish House please note the beautiful painting donated by Karin Dahl. This painting is called After Thoughts. Karin describes it as thoughts coming from the heart after coming out of a difficult time. It was painted in 2021. We are truly blessed to receive such a beautiful gift.
From the Junior Warden, Henry Zaborniak
I’ve been engaged as St. Luke’s Junior Warden for the past three months. Oh boy am I thankful for Keith Myers, Bill Wilken and Dave Proctor. Bill and Keith are extremely knowledgeable about both the Parish House and St. Luke’s historic church building. Considerable work has been completed in both spaces overseen by Bill and Keith. More “catch up” work will be required before we will be in a maintenance only mode. Generous donors have funded much of what has occurred thus far. The 2023 Vestry approved a plan for capital needs to be used towards needed repairs.
You may be aware that the Parish House needs to be repointed (or tucked pointed) - replacing missing mortar - and the masonry then sealed. In addition, the Parish House windows and glass doors need to be replaced in the near future. Vestry authorized an application for a Diocesan grant to help cover these costs which was submitted at the end of May. Thank you to Jean Schelhorn and Bill Wilken on their collaboration with a few others to “git ‘er done”. We will notify the congregation once we receive word as to the status of its approval.
Dave Proctor and his hardy band of gardeners (Shelly Morehead, Sue Bushman as well as others) have taken care of the church grounds for the past many years. We are so grateful for the care and nurturing of the front lawn, the alleyway as well as the beautiful memorial garden. This year we have employed the services of a Granville High School student, Garrett Hinton, to do the physical work. Dave continues to provide direction and support for the grounds keeping.
Thank you, Bill Wilken, for overseeing the ongoing St. Luke's church restoration. Thank you, Keith Myers, for your vision and work toward reimagining the Parish House. Thank you to everyone that donated to these projects.
