Restoration Update
As Well As Church and Parish House Upkeep
Work continues in our historic sanctuary. Thanks to our skilled craftsman great care is being taken to restore the sanctuary and altar area to its historical state. Work is being completed diligently everyday throughout the week and care is given to return the nave and sanctuary to a usable and clean state each week.
Included here is a photo of one of our scroll brackets that holds the shelf that holds our communion elements. Above is a before photo which shows the scroll covered with paint and after photo that shows the beautiful carving which now can be seen. More than 70 hours were invested in hand removing 5 layers of paint and decades of dirt, a true labor of love.
We do appreciate the patience of the congregation, servers and our Priest In Charge. Again, these painstaking restorations will provide for St. Luke’s into the next century. We appreciate the attention and collaboration from the Building and Maintenance team also. Feel free to ask questions of them as the project continues.
In addition to the current restoration please know that a grant request has also been submitted to the Dioceses of Southern Ohio to request assistance in emergency repairs of the Parish House. We are requesting assistance to replace windows, for tuck point work on the brick and mortar and to turn the two front doors into windows. These projects are deemed urgent as to avoid further deterioration and risk of injury from windows falling out.
A great deal of time was committed by our Treasurer, our Building and Maintenance team, grant writing team including Ginny Sharkey. The efforts of all are appreciated.
