Historical Tidbit

Hand Embroidered Kneelers, and offer of gratitude:

Part of our sacred church is not only the building and its physical attributes but also the smaller parts that are created by individuals and have also become part of our history.  In the past you have likely sat in a pew that held a kneeler which had a design that was hand embroidered by a member of St. Luke’s stitching and sewing groups. These beautiful pieces of art are now being collected and will be carefully cleaned as they have accumulated much dust, especially from our recent restoration. Marsha Hanes has graciously offered to clean these individual kneelers as she was a participant in the making of some. We have discovered pictures with notes about each kneeler and the person(s) that helped create each design. Discover the info about each of our kneelers, here. Some of those that contributed to the stitching and design have passed on, but their work and ministry will be preserved and shared.

Thank you to all of the talented artists that contributed to these beautiful kneelers and to our current group of artists that continue to make prayer shawls and other sewing projects that benefit St. Luke’s, friends of St. Luke’s and clients at our Market Street Pantry.
